Tis’ the season for parties and get-togethers! Which means…it’s also the season for baking and taking! Today I wanted to share this quick recipe that I made over the weekend!
We had a Christmas celebration at our church this past Sunday to sort of kick-off the holiday season. The celebration included a dessert fellowship afterwards and we all were to bring a treat of some kind. I was so tempted to bring cupcakes, but there are literally tons of adorable christmas cupcake ideas! However it was a little bit of a busy weekend for me and I didn’t really have the time to devote to a batch of beautiful cupcakes. So instead, I decided to go for something a little easier but still tasty and festive!
The base for the bars is a sugar cookie dough; you can use a package mix or make your own dough from scratch.
Once you have some dough, it needs to be pressed down into the bottom of a 13×9 pan.
Then bake your crust/base for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
After the fifteen is up, the pan comes out and the assembly begins. Because at the moment we only have one layer….and these are 7 layer bars. We got 6 more layers to go!!
Layer number two is chocolate chips. ….Before we go any further I feel the need to disclose something. The only topping that I actually “measured” for these bars was the can of sweetened condensed milk..and technically that doesn’t count because it was already measured for me. Now I will include the original recipe at the bottom of this post if measuring is your thing, but when it comes to toppings, especially chocolate chips- is there such thing as too many?? I think not. So I just sprinkled them on until the surface was covered to my liking. 🙂
Then comes the shredded coconut. Again. No measuring.
Next is the sweetened condensed milk. …Which by the way, I could drink from the can! Oh my gosh. So bad for you, but sooooo delicious!
Layers five and six are white chocolate chips and pretzels! This is looking quite tasty I must say! The very last layer definitely requires no measuring. Seriously, if you get out a measuring cup for these M&Ms you have major issues. Just sprinkle them on. Liberally!
*Bonus layer* Top your magnificent creation with some adorable holiday sprinkles! Then put that baby back in the oven for about 30 minutes!
Behold…the delicious masterpiece!
Just an FYI, it’s probably a good idea to let these cool completely before attempting to slice them.
1 pouch (17.5 oz.) Betty Crocker™ sugar cookie mix
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sweetened coconut flakes
1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups mini pretzel twists
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup red and green M&M’s™ chocolate candies
1 tablespoon red and green sprinkles
Preheat oven to 350°F. Add cookie mix, butter and egg to a medium mixing bowl and stir well until a soft dough forms.
Press dough into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and top the cookie base with chocolate chips, coconut and sweetened condensed milk. Layer pretzels, white chocolate chips, candies and sprinkles on top.
Return to the oven for 30 minutes. Allow to cool completely before cutting into 12 bars.
These were really yummy and only took like 30 minutes or less to put together! Basically you’re just throwing stuff on top of a cookie…which makes the cookie even better. 🙂
